15 Clerkenwell Close

The stone-framed façade of the astonishing 15CC housing block in London’s Islington has been one of the bravest and most hotly debated developments of past years. The seven-storey building houses nine flats and at basement and ground, the architect client’s double-height studio.

For this project, we created a bespoke vegetable-tanned side leather in green with a naked finish. This was intended to showcase the natural character and grain of the material, whilst acting to soften the use of stone and blackened steel used throughout the building.

Leatherwork was completed to the door architraves framing the entrance to each of the building’s apartments, and leather door handles with a handstitched detail were also fitted. As a final touch, we created hand-embossed post-box tags using the client’s custom typeface.
