Copyright Building
Working alongside architects Piercy & Company, we were asked to create unique interior leatherwork elements for the lobby of the Copyright Building; an eight-storey office and retail development on London’s Berners Street.
Our leather seating and reception desk are set amongst the European oak joinery with its slatted detailing, inspired by the craft and manufacturing history of the area. Using a tan bubbly shoulder leather, the high-backed seating has a pinched and handstitched perimeter, with seats and backs constructed to sit flush in alignment with the frame.
The three-metre desk with its travertine stone top uses the same leather, which was wrapped and hand-moulded, with butt joints between panels. The joinery and oak cabinetry were created by friends and long-term BAS collaborators, Benchmark Furniture.
A set of lift handrails with contrast thread hand-stitching, to match the lobby seats, were also completed.
