At London Design Festival (16 – 24 September 2023), Bill Amberg Studio will unveil a new furniture collection designed to adapt to different environments. The Black Ash Collection celebrates the timeless combination of natural materials, wood and leather.

The leather and black ash desk and chair are a natural progression from their recent Knepp Collection of furniture. Taking the silhouette of the Tub Chair, developed for the Knepp Estate Wilding Kitchen and Cafe in West Sussex, the chair has been reimagined in Italian water buffalo hide and solid FSC British grown ash from Ash trees that have succumbed to ash dieback.

The Ash dowels of the desk are simply constructed to create a rigid structure, with the top made from plywood and the same beautiful natural textured 4mm-thick water buffalo hide as the chair (this leather is a by-product of the Italian meat and mozzarella industry). The rich, natural grain of the leather provides a firm and hardwearing working surface that is a pleasure to write on.

With its compact footprint, suitable for homes, offices and hotels, the Black Ash Collection celebrates the wonderful qualities of the materials used – British Ash and Italian water buffalo leather, two natural materials that are full of charm and character. This collection of furniture is subtle and sophisticated, dark and discreet.
