During 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Bill Amberg Studio showcased furniture collections crafted from a simple combination of natural materials: leather and wood.
Uniquely, the studio exhibited a range of furniture created for Knepp Estate, renowned for its ground-breaking rewilding project. These pieces used materials sourced directly from the estate—leather from the longhorn cattle that freely roam the land and ash wood from the estate’s dieback clearance. As a natural progression from the Knepp Collection, the Black Ash Collection is handcrafted from Italian water buffalo leather and ash trees that have succumbed to dieback. Lastly, the studio presented a collection of stools—a result of their experiments with leather’s capacity for weight-bearing and structural support.
A highlight of the event was the launch of Bill Amberg Studio’s Folded Stool. The Folded Stool exemplifies Bill Amberg Studio’s pioneering approach to structural leatherwork, pushing the boundaries of this versatile material to showcase its exceptional strength and durability. Expertly crafted from a single piece of hand-folded leather by the studio’s craftsmen, this design reimagines the material’s traditional use, resulting in a striking, lightweight, versatile, and durable piece of furniture. The Folded Stool merges traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation.
The Folded Stool, Rivet Stool, Knepp Collection, Black Ash Collection, and all other featured collections from the exhibition are now available to purchase online.
